Fantasia 2021: The Lovers

A roommate stuck in a codependent cycle finds her burgeoning romance might lead to something unexpected.

In Avra Fox-Lerner’s THE LOVERS, intimacy is skillfully depicted through the genre lens. Destiny, New York in the autumn and a slightly twisted love, filmed in the most sublime manner. One can only hope to see Fox-Lerner make an imminent shift to feature films. The Lovers is a simple story in a short film, unfortunately for this year there are to many short films using complex stories or hitting the bizarre button a handful of times. Here we have a simple story of a woman meets man, and someone has a secret. Points for not trying to make things complex and sticking with just making a simple competent film.
