A Simplistic Review: Nosferatu (2024)

Roger Eggers’ Nosferatu is a moody reimagining of the vampire legend. Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok, complete with a Magnum P.I. mustache, exudes menace, while Willem Dafoe steals the show with a wildly theatrical performance that’s just one “Hark!!” away from going over the edge. The film’s meticulous detail is stunning, but Eggers’ pacing and heavy tone make it more of an artistic statement than an enjoyable rewatch.

Unfortunately, my audience undermined the experience, laughing at unsettling moments; and while Defoe is a hoot, I don’t need to hear people laughing at him eating the scenery. Nosferatu gets a lot right and I hope this is the film that gives Lily Rose Deep her big break.
